We are all aware of the critical talent shortages that we are facing in health care, especially in terms of nursing. These shortages are likely to continue and, if projections prove accurate, may even get worse.
This poses immense challenges for hospital managers – who have clearly found managing this situation a challenge already.
Unfortunately, shortages are predicted to arise in other areas, making management’s role even more difficult. To make matters worse, it is now projected that the availability of excellent managers will also decline sharply.
If hospitals are to remain effective let alone improve, managing talent in the supervisory and management arenas will become a survival issue.
